When The Dust Settles

£900.00

Original abstract artwork
Size - 40 x 80cm
Acrylic and oil stick, on canvas board

A summer trip to the wonderful Italian isle of Sicily was the driving force behind this body of work. These pieces seek to capture the feeling of basking in an ever-present wall of heat, against the backdrop of a multitude of stunning natural vistas.

Our visit to Sicily fell just days after a major eruption of Mount Etna, and the after-effects of this were visible across the island, with dust covering the land and hanging in the air. We were keen to visit the volcano, but this proved more challenging than expected, with roads closed off due to piles of volcanic ash. At one point we stopped in the foothills to assess the situation. Turning the corner from our car, a breathtaking view of the volcano’s summit greeted us – with cascades of yellow flowers at our feet and huge puffs of smoke issuing from the mouth above.
